Mozambique: Police commander demands coordinated action to defend the Afungi megaproject

Bernardino Rafael, General Commander of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique, is urging coordinated actions between the different branches of the defence and security forces (FDS) to better respond to the demands of protecting the natural gas mega-project in the Rovuma Basin, in Cabo Delgado.

Bernardino Rafael, who spoke this Monday at an FDS positions during the presentation of the new deputy commander of the Afungi Special Operational Theatre, highlighted that cohesion was the key to the success of the mission.

Rafael explained that those assigned to the Afungi Special Operational Theatre could not expect extra compensation, because the mission of defending the homeland and its wealth were one and the same thing.

Speaking to the press just after being introduced to the population of Quitunda, the new deputy commander of the Afungi Special Operational Theatrer, Ernesto Madungue, said he was aware of the great responsibility that awaited him.

The Afungi Special Operational Theatre is commanded by Brigadier Carlos Mandongue and, now, by his new deputy, presented this Monday.
