The Mozambican Police Association (AMOPAIP) has today asked the authorities to clarify the attack on the president of the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA), Agostinho Vuma, to show that “there is no room for crime in this country”.
An AMOPAIP communique states that the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) and the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) must swiftly arrest the perpetrators of the armed attack on Agostinho Vuma, who was injured and has been hospitalised since Saturday.
“The authorities must once again test their investigative capacity and make it clear that there is no room for crime in Mozambique,” the note signed by AMOPAIP president Nazário Muanambane reads.
Agostinho Vuma was ambushed by two armed men at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday in his office building on Avenida Josina Machel in central Maputo.
The CTA on Sunday described Agostinho Vuma’s state of health as “under control”.
TV Miramar today reports that Vuma is in an induced coma while plans to evacuate him for further treatment abroad are being considered.
Agostinho Vuma, 44, was elected president of CTA in May 2017. He is a founding member of the Association of Contractors of the City of Maputo, of which he was president, and later helped found the Mozambican Federation of Contractors (FME).
Agostinho Vuma is a Frelimo deputy in the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique, where he has represented Gaza, in the south of the country, since 2015.
