The Mozambican police have arrested 25 people for breaking the state of emergency rules, Orlando Modumane, a spokesman for the corporation’s general command, said on Tuesday.
“They have been arrested for disobedience in the last 48 hours,” Orlando Mudumane said, speaking during a joint press conference at the Ministry of Health in Maputo.
According to the Mozambican police spokesman, three vehicles, 27 motorbikes, 254 bicycles were seized and 78 commercial establishments were closed.
Mozambique has 10 officially confirmed cases, with no deaths and one of them recovered, after 424 tests since the outbreak of the pandemic on 11 March, health authorities announced today.
The country is living in a state of emergency with entertainment and leisure spaces closed, a ban on all types of events, crowds of more than 10 people and limitations on transport capacity.
All public and private events, including religious services, are prohibited, along with schools being closed, the suspension of visas and discouragement of crowds, measures already implemented since 23 March, .
The state of emergency will last throughout April and allows the defense and security forces to intervene in case of breach of the approved measures.
