Mozambique: Bodies of miners retrieved from Manica tourmaline mine

Four former members of the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) and the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM), who in September, 2020, abducted and raped a 13-year-old girl in the municipality of Matola, were last Friday given prison sentences ranging from two to eight years, and ordered to pay one million meticais in compensation to the victim.
The four men are Shelton Cumbe, Jusdino Chambisse, Idílio Moreira and Charles Muaie.
On the day of the crime, the girl was taken by Shelton Cumbe, Jusdino Chambisse and Idílio Moreira to a residence located in the Machava neighbourhood, where Moreira was responsible for getting the girl drunk.
The girl, who remained unconscious for eight hours, was put in a vehicle and driven round Matola’s Machava, Fomento and Infulene neighborhoods. The tour ended at Shelton Cumbe’s parents’ house in the Patrice Lumumba neighbourhood, where all the rapes took place. The owners of the residence were not at home at the time.
In addition to committing the crime of rape of a minor, one of the participants filmed the proceedings. A friend of the victim later shared the video via WhatsApp.
Sentence was read by the judge of the 1st section of the Judicial Court of Machava, Matola municipality, Maputo province, Nilza Pene.
A fifth individual involved in this crime is currently at large, Notícias reports.
