Poachers have vandalised electrical grid infrastructure and stolen parts of the equipment for the manufacture of traps in the Niassa special reserve and buffer zones.
This frequently occurs in the Marrupa-Mecula corridor, where an electricity transmission pole recently fell over due to the looting of its stabilising spikes.
The director of Electricidade de Moçambique in the Cuamba service area, Aurélio Luís, said that the situation had left the entire district of Mecula in the dark for eight hours.
