UBA Africa strengthens strategic partnerships in Mozambique
The Mozambican National Communications Institute (INCM) expects that an auction of spectrum of radio frequencies in the 800, 1800 and 2600 MHz range for 4G should happen in 2 to 3 months, reports A Verdade.
The current mobile telecom market continues to grow in Mozambique and still has a lot of potential with penetration into ever more rural areas. However, revenues from mobile phone companies have been shrinking from traditional voice and text-based calls to OTT internet-based services that require ever-better connectivity.
An MCel source told the daily that as part of the merger with the TDM the company is working to launch a 4G service until the end of the year even if the necessary spectrum auction does not happen by then.
