President Daniel Chapo yesterday held his first rally in Pemba since being sworn in as President of the Republic in January. At the rally, he expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him and addressed peace, the fight against corruption and the implementation of the plan for the first 100 days of his term in office.
On the first day of his visit to Cabo Delgado, Chapo yesterday held an extraordinary session of the Provincial Executive Council, which included the Council of State Representation Services and district administrators, and met with the mining business sector.
During the rally, Daniel Chapo reiterated his commitment to peace as a prerequisite for creating better living conditions for the population, through increased production, income generation, employment and a reduction in the cost of living.
To achieve this goal, the president said, priority must be given to the fight against terrorism and corruption and greater attention must be given to groups that promote violent demonstrations that cause deaths, destroy infrastructure and delay development.
President Chapo recalled that when he took office he promised an executive that would be close to the people, which is why he went to Cabo Delgado to listen to their concerns and say that he intended to continue working to improve people’s lives.
“I chaired a session of the local government, and the province must go down to the district and listen to the concerns of the administrative posts and find solutions for more water, schools, medicine, free books, roads and energy”.
The head of state shared with his audience the major achievements included in the plan for the first 100 days of government, with emphasis on the payment of the 13th salary to civil servants and agents of the state; the start of overtime pay for teachers and the health sector this week; followed later by the repayment of debts owed to suppliers and the disadvantaged, through the National Institute of Social Action (INAS).
“Let us unite to combat social ills; no one should break national unity or jeopardize our flag, the national anthem or the heroes who fought for independence. We will not accept the division of the country,” President Chapo stressed.
