Mozambique: MISA demands investigation into disappearance of journalist
Screen grab: Miramar
Some primary schools In Nampula have chosen the safest route: postponing the resumption of classes pending improvements in hygiene conditions.
In the city and province of Nampula, the resumption of face-to-face Grade 7 classes has been patchy, Miramarmar reports, on the part both of students and the management of some schools.
At the gate of the Complete Primary School of Namutequeliua on Monday morning, we found this group of students expecting to attend class. But they had gone to the school in vain, because adequate hygiene conditions were not yet in place.
After the resumption of classes in full, the improvised rooms seen in the Miramar report below are expected to be able to accommodate the rest of students.
At the 25 de Junho Primary School, MIramar found Grade 7 students receiving directions on what rules to follow, although without any date for classes resuming, because the reopening depends on approval, yet to be granted, by a multi-sectoral team created to evaluate conditions.
Students are anxious to return to the classroom, and say they are prepared to face ‘the new normal’.
In spite of this, ceremonies celebrating the resumption of classes in Nampula did take place in Namigonha administrative post and the provincial capital, where six classrooms and four public toilets were delivered to students and the school community.
Nampula district alone has 126 schools, 15 of which are secondary education and 87 EP1s, which teach up to Grade 7. The remainder are EP2, which teach up to Grade 5.
The education sector in Nampula says it is still organising the comprehensive resumption of Grade 7 classes.
