The issuance of travel documents remains suspended. The measure was taken last April in the context of the declaration on the 30th of March by the head of state of the State of Emergency, in the scope of measures to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus.
This Monday, the Mozambican authorities resumed the issuance of Identity Cards (BI), Foreign Resident Identification Documents (DIRE), as well as temporary visas, left unchanged their decision not to issue passports.
Speaking at a press conference, the spokesman for the National Migration Service (SENAMI), Celestino Matsinhe, said that citizens who urgently need a passport should apply to the Minister of the Interior.
Spokesman for the National Directorate of Civil Identification (DNIC), Alberto Sumbana, said that the issuance of Identity Cards resumed across almost the entire country, with the exception of Nampula province and some districts in the central and northern areas. He guaranteed, however, that the situation in Nampula would be normalised this Wednesday, and next week Monday in all other parts of the country.
“The DNIC is preparing teams to work in schools, communities and public institutions, in order to bring services closer to citizens,” Sumbana said, calling on the public to take advantage of the extended validity of documents (to September 30, 2020) so as not to flood the Civil Identification Directorates.
