Mozambique: Government reaffirms intention to renegotiate megaprojects

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, José Pacheco, will pay a working visit to Tokyo, Japan, to attend the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting on 6 and 7 October.
At the meeting, ministers will assess the implementation stage of the actions agreed in TICAD V and VI, respectively, in 2013 and 2016, as well as prepare for the TICAD VII Summit to be held in Yokohama, Japan, from 28 to 30 August 2019, reads a statement sent to O País.
During his stay in Tokyo, Minister José Pacheco will participate in the African Clean Cities Platform meeting on October 5 and hold working meetings with his Japanese counterpart, Taro Kono, the Japanese Minister of the Environment and the President of the Japanese Agency of Cooperation (JICA), in order to strengthen relations of friendship and cooperation.
About TICAD
Over the past years, the Japanese government has invested in assisting Africa to address its development challenges. TICAD is a conference held regularly with the objective of promoting high-level policy dialogue between African leaders and development partners.
TICAD was inaugurated in 1993 and the series have included: TICAD I (1993); TICAD II (1998); TICAD III (2003); TICAD IV (2008); TICAD V (2013), and lastly TICAD VI, which took place for the first time outside Japan, in Kenya in August 2016.
Japan co-hosts these conferences together with the United Nations Office of the Special Advisor on Africa (UN-OSAA), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank and the African Union Commission (AUC).
