Mozambique’s 2026 budget prioritises wage bill control and debt stabilisation – govt

The Assembly of the Republic (AR) expects to spend just over 3.1 billion meticais next year, according to the budget proposal presented at the parliament’s plenary session yesterday.
Of the budgeted amount, whose final assessment will be made after the draft resolution is drawn up, just over 2.9 billion meticais are for salaries and wages, staff costs, goods and services and current transfers.
The remaining 196 million meticais are earmarked for investment in the areas of infrastructure rehabilitation and maintenance, equipping facilities and setting up an integrated security system, strengthening the scope of Information and Communication Technologies and rehabilitating the facilities of provincial delegations in the AR General Secretariat.
