Mozambique: Parliament speaker on official visit to Russia

The President of the Mozambican Assembly of the Republic (Parliament Speaker) , Esperança Bias, today starts a three-day visit to Russia, at the invitation of her counterpart, Valentina Matvienko, the Mozambican parliament announced in a statement, reproduced below.

Parliamentary Speaker, Esperança Laurinda Francisco Nhiuane Bias, arrived this Monday (April 24) in Moscow, Russia, for an official visit at the invitation of her counterpart, Valentina Matvienko. Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

Upon their arrival, Esperança Bias and her delegation were received by the Ambassador of the Republic of Mozambique to the Russian Federation, José Mateus Katupha, with whom she then held a working meeting.

This meeting was attended by the heads of the parliamentary groups of Frelimo, Renamo and MDM, Sérgio Pantie, Viana da Silva Magalhães and Lutero Simango respectively, and by member of the Permanent Commission of the Assembly of the Republic, Deputy Ana Rita Sithole.

At the meeting, Esperança Bias explained that this visit aims, among several aspects, to deepen existing cooperation relations between the two peoples and parliaments, as well as to sensitize the Russian business community to investment opportunities in Mozambique.

During her stay in Moscow, the Esperança Bias will address the 544th Plenary Session of the Federation Council , the upper chamber of the Federal Assembly, the Russian parliament.

Mozambique’s Parliament Speaker will also hold meetings with the Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Vyacheslav Volodin, and with Federation Council Chairperson Valentina Matvienko.

Also during her official visit to the Russian Federation, the Esperança Bias will meet members of the Mozambican community in Moscow and visit some of the country’s historical sites.
