The panel of judges of the 3rd Criminal Section of the Judicial Court of the Province of Zambézia (TJPZ) on Tuesday sentenced a 31-year-old man to 40 years in prison for having repeatedly raped his daughters who are now 10 and 11 years old.
Radio Mozambique reports that the defendant, father of five, will have to pay his victims compensation of 350,000 meticais.
The case came to the attention of authorities in Gurúè district, Zambezia province, last March, as a result of complaints by neighbours and community leaders, who had known for some time about the man’s sexual abuse of his daughters.
A representative of the Public Prosecutor’s Office told Radio Mozambique that he was satisfied with the court’s ruling, and that the Public Prosecutor’s Office and other social sectors were cooperating to ensure the education and support of the mans’ five children, currently in the care of an aunt.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Zambézia has already registered five cases of sexual abuse of minors by their fathers.

The arrest took place last Friday in Curromana administrative post, Molumbo district. One of those detained is the boy’s uncle.
