The Minister of Economy and Finance, Max Tonela, has guaranteed the gradual continuation of overtime payments to teachers.
Tonela was responding at the clarification session in the Assembly of the Republic this Thursday morning to pressing questions from the Renamo and Mozambique Democratic Movement (MDM) benches.
Minister Tonela said that overtime payments began last Tuesday and would continue gradually until all schools were covered.
According to the minister, the government is fully committed to paying due overtime arrears, as approved by the Administrative Tribunal (TA).
Max Tonela clarified that the need to pay teachers for overtime arose from the deficit in human resources, and that the government’s priority was to guarantee basic salary, while the payment of overtime depended on Administrative Tribunal approval.
