Since January, Vilankulo International Airport has received around 4,500 aircraft, including commercial and private passenger transport, transporting more than 60,000 passengers, O País reports.
The Chair of the Board of Directors of Aeroportos de Moçambique, Amélia Muendane, says that, given the demand, the infrastructure could become self-sustainable in the near future.
When asked about the sustainability of Vilankulo Airport, the CEO of Aeroportos de Moçambique (ADM) was cautious and said that there could be good news in the future.
Muendane also said that, as the number of aircraft stopping over at Vilankulo increases, the infrastructure, built less than 15 years ago, is already starting to become too small to meet demand.
Amélia Muendane, who was sworn into office as chairperson of ADM on August 13 this year, explained that she had begun a series of visits to airports in Mozambique, in order to get to know them all and learn about the main challenges facing the Mozambique Airports company
