More than 500 officers of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) who have accumulated more than 45 years of service will retire this year, as part of the process of revitalising the corporation.
The General Commander of the Police, Bernardino Rafael, said that the measure was intended to make the police force more operational and equip it with a greater capacity to respond to new challenges.
“But these reservists also have an economic effect,” Rafael underlined. “The existence of officers exclusively for necessary places, and not of officers with no occupation, only helps an organisation. Officers without any occupation hinder leadership,” he said.
Commander Rafael was speaking on Tuesday (25-04) at the opening ceremony of the academic year at the Osvaldo Tanzama Police Sergeants School in Nhamatanda district, Sofala province.
