Mozambican Interior Minister Arsenia Massingue on Thursday promoted 461 police officers at a ceremony in Maputo.
The new promotions include 163 superintendents, 117 sergeants and 181 other junior officers.
Addressing the ceremony, Massingue said promotion is a continuous act in the police force, which means “a professional growth of the members concerned, as a result of recognition of their dedication”
Massingue also told the police to be in readiness to respond vigorously to any acts that threaten public order and security and the free movement of goods throughout the national territory.
Three other officers passed to the reserve list, and Massingue praised them for their dedication. “We are fully aware that it was not easy to consent to sacrifices during the most troubled times in the recent history of our country. You have accomplished your mission”, the minister acknowledged.
Manuel Alexandre, one of the officers promoted to the rank of police superintendent, said that the rank he now holds represents more responsibility, dedication and commitment.
“From now on, the corporation can expect much more commitment from me in all the tasks that will be assigned to me”, he pledged.
For his part, Felisberto Nguirane, once General Director of the police social services, now passing to the reserve list, said that his “group resisted several difficulties and understood that serving the motherland was an unavoidable obligation.”
“We want to express our readiness and availability to give a little of our knowledge in the defence of the country and in the maintenance of public order and security, whenever necessary”, he added.
