Mozambican saxophonist Alípio Cruz, better known as Otis, will perform on Friday at the Mozambique-China Cultural Centre (CCMC) in Maputo in a concert titled “Otis and Friends.”
This will be the second edition of the artist’s show, which blends jazz and traditional Mozambican rhythms. Unlike the first edition, which brought together saxophonists, this year’s performance will feature a multidisciplinary line-up.
Guest artists include Aniano Tamele, Dua Maciel, Valter Mabas (guitar), Celso Durão (timbila), Mahu Mucamissa, and Sarmento de Cristo (saxophone).
Throughout his career, Otis has performed at major events such as the Eurovision Song Contest, and festivals in Cape Verde and Portugal. He also collaborated for more than a decade with singer Roberto Leal and worked with several renowned artists, including Paulo de Carvalho, Rui Veloso, Tito Paris, Banda Kakana, Wazimbo, Marisa, Bonga, Lura, and Stewart Sukuma.
Earlier this year, Otis performed alongside the São Toméan duo Calema, who sold out Lisbon’s Estádio da Luz.
