The leader of the opposition, Ossufo Momade, just moments ago handed over the last Renamo weapon to the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, at the party’s Vunduzi base in Serra da Gorongosa, Sofala province, marking the end of the disarmament phase of the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) process.
Momade also expressed his interest in seeing all the pensions recently approved by the government delivered to the guerrillas who benefited from the DDR.
Momade was speaking in Vunduzi as part of the process of closing the last Renamo base under the DDR process. The Renamo president praised his soldiers for remaining calm and firm while awaiting their turn to demobilise.
“Today, a new page in your life as citizens begins. We hope that your families and society will welcome you, and that you will be reintegrated into the development activities of this nation and the party,” he said.
Ossufo Momade praised the commitment of the government and the President of the Republic.
