Renamo, Mozambique’s main opposition party said on Tuesday that it was ready to take over control of municipalities in the 10 October local elections.
The party said it was prepared to take power in the municipalities (governed by its opponents) and is prepared to win the municipal elections.
It added that Renamo’s victory would be a way of paying homage to the party’s later chairman, Afonso Dhlakama, who died on 2 May this year.
Renamo had boycotted the 2013 municipal elections in protest against the electoral law in force at the time.
