Mozambican citizens victims of human trafficking in Laos await repatriation

The Mozambican health authorities on Monday reported only one new case of the Covid-19 respiratory disease on Monday and 42 recoveries.
According to a Monday press release from the Ministry of Health, the new case was a Mozambican man from the northern province of Nampula.
Since the start of the pandemic, 1,385,166 people have been tested in Mozambique for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 59 of them in the previous 24 hours. 58 of these tests yielded negative results, and the one who tested positive raised the total number of positive cases diagnosed in Mozambique to 230,130.
The positivity rate (the percentage of those tested found to be carrying the coronavirus) fell from 2.2 per cent on Sunday to 1.69 per cent on Monday.
No Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospital on Monday, and one new case was admitted, in Niassa. The number of patients undergoing medical care in the Covid-19 wards rose from seven on Sunday to eight on Monday. Five of these patients were in Niassa, two in Maputo city, and one in Zambezia.
The Ministry reported no deaths from Covid-19 on Monday, and so the death toll in Mozambique from the disease remains 2,220.
Of the 42 recoveries reported on Monday, 20 were from Tete, 20 from Sofala and two from Gaza. This brought the total number of recoveries to 227,811, which is 98.99 per cent of all cases of Covid-19 diagnosed in Mozambique.
The number of active cases of Covid-19 fell from 135 on Sunday to 94 on Monday. The geographical breakdown of the active cases was as follows: Zambezia, 26; Maputo city, 18; Cabo Delgado, 12; Nampula, 11; Gaza, eight; Manica, six; Tete, five; Niassa, four; Inhambane, two; Maputo province and Sofala, one each.
The Ministry press release also reported that a further 217 people were vaccinated against Covid-19 on Monday, all from Cabo Delgado, Sofala and Gaza. The total number fully vaccinated against the disease now stands at 14,687,995, which is 96.6 per cent of all citizens aged 18 and above.
