The Bons Sinais Association will invite the president of Portugal and the governor of Goa, India, to participate in the reopening ceremony of Quelimane Old Cathedral, once its rehabilitation is complete.
President of the Bons Sinais Association, Abdul Carimo Issá, said that rehabilitation of Quelimane Old Cathedral should be completed by August of next year, just as the city, the provincial capital of Zambézia, celebrates its 80th anniversary.
The cathedral, which is around 250 years old, has been closed for over 40 years.
Abdul Carimo Issá said that restoration was at an advanced stage, with the stabilisation phase practically complete.
Around US$486,000 – more than 30.5 million meticais, from several partners, including the United States and Norway – is being invested in the work.
