According to a press release from the National Petroleum Institute of Mozambique (INP) released on Tuesday, drilling and completion of well activities for the Coral South Project are to resume “as from January 2021” after an eight-month interruption due to the global impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Mozambique Rovuma Venture (MRV), the operator of Area 4 and the Coral South Project, has notified the authorities of the scheduled arrival of the SAIPEM 12000 vessel in Pemba on Tuesday, January 5th, 2021, with the beginning of operations at sea subject only to the observance of custom formalities, the loading of material and equipment and the boarding of the remaining crew.
This is in line with plans to resume drilling and completion operations for the Coral South Project in January of this year. Drilling activities started in September 2019 but were interrupted in April 2020 by the coronavirus pandemic.
Construction of the Coral South FLNG platform is however proceeding as planned in South Korea, with the first production of liquefied natural gas (LNG) still scheduled for 2022.
The platform is expected to produce 3.4 million tons of LNG per year.
