On his last day as President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi left the Ponta Vermelha Palace with a feeling of relief and with the expectation of dedicating himself more to his family going forward.
After ten years leading the country’s destiny, it is time to move on to other fronts.
“It is a moment of relief and release, but the motherland I carry it with me in my heart,” said Filipe Nyusi, in his last glimpse of the green that characterizes the Ponta Vermelha Palace.
Nyusi stated that he did not lose much as a normal citizen, because whenever he had time he would call his friends.
“Whenever I went to Tete, and Beira, anywhere in the country, I always found time to talk, because there is nothing more beautiful than listening to stories from the past with friends. And they are making a connection with the life they have lived.”
One of the things that has not been lost sight of is the image Filipe Nyusi the driver. Will he drive again as he has been seen doing a few times, even as president?
“You saw me driving, you saw me playing football, singing, dancing. These are the things I said I didn’t want to lose, including that I really missed teaching, so whenever I visited a school, I would go to the board and ask questions about quadratic equations and resolution formulas,” Filipe Nyusi reminisced.
When asked about where he would settle [to live], Filipe Nyusi simply replied: “I will always go back to wherever I have been, because there is where the memories are , including here [Maputo]. But, well, you know where I am from and there is always more priority to be there sometimes, but I will be in Mozambique.”
