The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, on Friday met an IMF delegation headed by Abebe Selassie, director of the organisation’s African Department.
The Mozambican head of state took the opportunity to thank the IMF for the support it has provided to the country.
The president highlighted the approval of the financing program for the country, stating that this demonstrated the fulfilment by his government of the reforms necessary for the sustainable growth of the economy.
He also referred to the government’s efforts to control the impact of Covid-19 on the economy.
On the same occasion, Nyusi referred to the economic situation, pointing to global inflationary pressure as inhibiting the achievement of some program objectives.
A note from the Presidency of the Republic received in the ‘Notícias’ newsroom indicates that the impact of the salary reform on the Civil Service, with a focus on the Single Salary Table (TSU) approved by the government, deserves attention.
On the security situation in particular, the Mozambican Head of State highlighted the return of families to their areas of origin in Cabo Delgado and the ongoing activities of the Northern Resilience and Integrated Development Programme (PRODIN).
President Nyusi highlighted the support of African countries in the fight against terrorism, with particular emphasis on the Mission of the Southern African Development Community (SAMIM) and Rwandan forces, which were resulting in the normalization of security in the province.
The president expressed concern regarding the state of the EN1, describing it as a priority for the national economy, and mentioned the availability of World Bank financing for its rehabilitation.
In turn, the director of the IMF’s African Department, Abebe Selassie, expressed his satisfaction with the reforms carried out by the Government of Mozambique and expressed the IMF’s willingness to continue working with the country, especially in key sectors such as health, education and infrastructure.
