The Commander in Chief of Mozambique’s Defence and Security Forces, Filipe Nyusi, on Wednesday announced the names of the ringleaders responsible for terrorist operations in Mucojo, Cabo Delgado.
They are Abu Zainabo, also known as Langa, a Tanzanian national who considers himself a spiritual leader, assisted by Faride Suleimane Harire, Abdul Munir Ahmad, also known as Quadrado and the group’s ideologist, Sulemane Toto, the son of a decommissioned terrorist, Mahamudo Babu, with Rafael Mazuku, who also identifies himself as sheik, and Juma Al-Fail.
Speaking on the occasion of FADM Day, President Nyusi admitted that some of the identities may be war names [noms de guerre], and that it is therefore not possible to initiate dialogue to find out what they want.
Nyusi shared the names in fulfilment of the promise made on September 7 that citizens would be made aware of the danger that some individuals represent to the peace and development of the country.
In the meantime, the president said that 182 operatives formerly linked to the terrorists had already turned themselves in to the authorities and were reintegrated into their communities without discrimination.
