President Nyusi inaugurated a water supply system in Vanduzi, Manica province, central Mozambique, today.
Vanduzi district has previously endured chronic water supply problems, with its more than 12 thousand inhabitants obliged to travel long distances to access water.
“The system has a pickup station pumping 100 cubic meters per hour. The water is transported through a 3.5-kilometre pipeline to five distributors,” Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Osvaldo Machatine, explained.
Addressing residents, President Nyusi acknowledged that the water supply was not yet sufficient to totally satisfy demand, but said that his government had been working on access to water for the majority of the population.
The president also urged beneficiaries to look after the new infrastructure, which is fed from the Vanduzi river and was built using finance provided by the United Kingdom, at a cost of just over 104 million meticais.
