The number of women in leadership positions at Mozambique Electricity (EDM) grew by 8%, moving up from 18, in 2014, , to 26 in 2021,
The EDM currently “has 18% female representation in its workforce, a considerable number taking into account the fact that the company operates in a traditionally male sector,” a communique from the corporation reads, adding that this meets the company’s commitment to raising female presence in the organisation to 40% by 2030..
In the message sent to workers on International Women’s Day, EDM’s Chairman Marcelino Gildo reaffirms the commitment of the Board of Directors to continuing to ensure equal rights and opportunities for men and women in the company, fighting any and all kinds of discrimination and violence against women.
At a time when the country and the world are facing the challenge of Covid-19, “women are called upon to help society overcome this pandemic with their leadership in the dissemination of messages and the promotion of preventive and safe behaviours, helping the world towards the resumption of sustainable development”, Marcelino Gildo’s message emphasises.
