No cases of the new coronavirus were found among the 69 samples analysed in the National Health Institute (INS) virology laboratory between Sunday and Monday.
The country therefore still has just 39 confirmed infections, of which 31 are active and eight patients fully recovered, National Director of Public Health at the Ministry of Health (MISAU) Rosa Marlene told press in Maputo yesterday.
In the usual report on the incidence of Covid-19 in the country, Marlene explained that, to date, 1,110 people had been tested, a further 11,500 remained in quarantine, and around 1,900 people were being followed up.
The province of Cabo Delgado continues to be the main focus of Ministry of Health attention, given the evolution of contagions in the region during the past few days. INS specialists have installed two screening centres there, one in Afungi and the other in the city of Pemba.
Deputy Director-General of the INS, Eduardo Samo Gudo, said that the health sector was making every effort to ensure that the country did not reach the possible worst case scenario of 20 million Mozambicans infected over six months.
Samo Gudo noted more than half of active cases are asymptomatic, a factor which increases the risk of new transmissions, and called on the public to severely limit circulation.
Experience shows that 80 percent of infected people have no or only mild symptoms, and only 15 percent require medical attention, a third of these only needing intensive care.
The number of cases of Covid-19 already exceeds 2.4 million worldwide, with a cumulative 165,174 fatalities. In Africa, 22,275 infections and 1,119 deaths have been recorded, with a record of 5,489 fully recovered.
