No new cases of coronavirus were diagnosed in Mozambique on Monday, and so the number of known cases in the country remains 76.
Speaking at the Health Ministry’s daily press conference on the coronavirus crisis in Maputo on Monday, the National Director of Public Health, Rosa Marlene, said that to date 1,688 people have been tested, 44 of them in the previous 24 hours. All 44 tested negative for coronavirus.
But the 44 samples came from only two provinces – 42 were gathered in Maputo city and two in Nampula province. No new samples were received from the northern province of Cabo Delgado, where mass testing is now under way at the camp of the French oil and gas company, Total, on the Afungi Peninsula. This is the site of the largest known cluster of cases in the country. 56 of the 76 cases diagnosed to date are from Cabo Delgado.
The basic data for coronavirus infection in Mozambique remain unchanged since Sunday: 76 confirmed cases, of which nine have made a full recovery, and 67 are regarded as active cases, and no deaths.
According to the statistics of the National Health Institute (INS), since the start of the crisis, 518,350 people (Mozambicans and foreigners) have entered the country, and all have been screened. 970 of these passengers are still in quarantine.
