Niassa Special Reserve has recorded its second consecutive year with no elephant deaths attributable to poachers.
The milestone was reached this Sunday, May 24th, according to a communiqué from the National Administration of Conservation Areas (ANAC), which today celebrates nine years of existence.
The ANAC notes that the celebration takes place at a time when humanity worldwide is under threat from the Covid-19 pandemic, and many species of flora and fauna face possible extinction from overuse, global warming and loss of natural habitat.
Conservation areas in Mozambique occupy about 25 percent of the country’s land area, and comprise nine national parks, four reserves, two areas of environmental protection, about 50 wildlife farms and 40 official game parks, in addition to three community conservation areas.
