Religious leaders in Niassa have expressed concern about the increase in terrorist attacks in the neighbouring province of Cabo Delgado.
Terrorists have in recent days again attacked some villages, creating insecurity among the population.
The deputy delegate of the Islamic Council of Mozambique in Niassa, Abdala Omar, and the president of the province’s Christian Council of Mozambique, Rock Manjate, jointly noted that the situation arises at a time when families who had moved to other provinces for their safety had just returned to their areas of origin in Cabo Delgado.
Omar and Manjate encouraged the Defence and Security Forces of Mozambique, together with forces of the SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM) and of Rwanda, to continue working to defend the population against terrorist actions retarding the country’s development.
Both religious leaders call on the population to be vigilant, and on young people in particular to focus their energies on entrepreneurship, rather than joining the terrorists bent on destroying Cabo Delgado.
