Two fully equipped conventional classrooms, built within the scope of the social responsibility actions by the Sociedade Algodoeira do Niassa/João Ferreira dos Santos (SAN/FJS) were inaugurated in Khomane, Cuamba district, on Tuesday by Governor of Niassa, Elina Judite Massengele.
Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Massengele said she was pleased with the delivery of the infrastructure to the Khomane community, as the children would now have access to an inclusive and patriotic quality education, education being an important weapon in the fight against poverty.
“This goal is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and today we have just included the wishes and expectations of the entire population, so that we now leave no one behind,” Massengele said.
For the SAN general director Manuel Delgado, the education of children and of cotton producers has always been a company priority. “For our group, education has always played a fundamental role in social responsibility actions,” he remarked.
“For us, primary education is fundamental, as it provides the essential foundations for the cognitive, social and emotional development of the communities where we are located,” Delgado said.
“A good primary education helps communities face future challenges, promoting equal opportunities and contributing for their growth and development as a whole,” he continued. “It was with this intention that, with the support of ‘Cotton made in Africa’, we equipped these two classrooms. And if you pass through Muitetere, there is an old school that today has been transformed into ‘LojaJoão’, next to a newly built school.”
For Provincial Director of Education Alocre Jaime, “the education sector in the province is satisfied, since the gesture contributes to the fulfilment of sectoral governance plans advocating an inclusive, effective and efficient educational system, through the improvement of learning conditions and environments in the exercise of acquiring skills”.
In turn, Júlio Manguinji, Administrator of the Cuamba District, expressed gratitude for the support, “since the community already deserved it, considering the existence of many cotton producers and the high volume of productivity, as this school covers four villages, namely, Mulapane, Mucuna, Nawawane and Namoro”.
The Khomane population expressed joy at receiving the classrooms, and expressed gratitude for the gesture, “… which will allow our children to have an education in more appropriate conditions”.
The construction of the classrooms at the Khomane primary school will benefit 430 students from Grade 1 to 6, at a cost of around 8 million meticais. They were built by company Nota Construções in the record time of just four months.
