The band Djaaka was the big winner in the best song category at the 35th edition of Ngoma Moçambique in the provincial capital of Sofala.
Djaaka, a band founded in the city of Beira in the early 2000s by members of the Companhia de Música e Dança Tradicional da Beira, took possession of a brand new vehicle.
The Ngoma Moçambique Most Voted Song award went to Humberto Luís, while António Estima won the Career Award, and Xixel Langa was the winner of the Theme Award.
Malapende and Deltino Guerreiro won the Best Female and Male Voice Awards, respectively, and the Revelation Awards went to Áquila Chirinza (female), and Nolas (male).
Djaaka’s main vocalist, Júlio Chissico, said that the distinction was a pleasant surprise and an encouragement to the group.
In turn, Humberto Luís stated that the award has a special place, dedicating it to his fans.
In addition to Djaaka, the remaining winners took home cheques worth 75,000 to 300,000 meticais.
The twelve finalists and guest artists performed in a show lasting more than three hours, dubbed by the audience an unforgettable night of pure delight.
The president of the RM Board of Directors, Abdul Naguibo, said that the Ngoma Mozambique Finals Gala in the city of Beira had more-than paid off, while Governor of Sofala, Lourenço Bulha, thanked the radio station sponsor for choosing Beira, the provincial capital, as the stage for the competition’s grand finale.
