Mozambican journalist Jordão Muvale, Director-General of the Mozambique News Agency (Agência de Informação de Moçambique – AIM), passed away on Tuesday at the age of 56 at his home in Matola-Rio, Maputo province, following an illness, according to a source from the agency.
After a long career in journalism and public administration, Jordão Muvale was appointed Director-General of AIM on 2 June 2023, an institution overseen by the Information Office (Gabinete de Informação – GABINFO).
Jordão Muvale was born on 1 January 1969 in Macarringa, Inhambane province. He began his career at AIM, where he distinguished himself as a reporter and editor (1995–2000), later rising to leadership positions in state communication.
Before returning to AIM as Director-General, he served as Director of Information and Communication at GABINFO and as coordinator of the Media Project at the National Council for the Fight Against HIV/AIDS (Conselho Nacional de Combate ao VIH-SIDA – CNCS), as well as holding other communication roles within various ministries.
The executive secretariat of the National Union of Journalists lamented Muvale’s death, noting that he was a professional who “greatly contributed to the training of a new generation of journalists.”
