The new Ressano Garcia customs terminal, on the border between Mozambique and South Africa, will start operating next month.
The project, budgeted at around US$3.5 million, will halve the 500 trucks that traverse the National Road Number Four (EN4) daily on the way to the port of Maputo.
The commercial director of company Caminhos-de-Ferro de Moçambique (CFM), Victorino Chiteve, says that the final arrangements for the customs terminal to start operating are underway at this moment.
The new customs terminal, also called ‘Porto Seco’, has the capacity to store 250,000 tons of iron-chromium ore per month. It can receive about 60 trucks daily, and 1,500 monthly, and can handle trains of up to 60 wagons, with freight totalling 3,000 tons, to an average of 17 trains per month.
