The Industrial Association of Mozambique (AIMO) held its 16th Ordinary General Assembly today at its headquarters in Maputo, marking the election of new governing bodies for the 2025–2030 term.
In accordance with the association’s statutes, the highlight of the session was the election of the new Board of Directors, now led by Paulo Chibanga, who was elected unanimously with 100% of the votes.
The Assembly was considered a milestone in AIMO’s trajectory, reflecting a moment of strategic repositioning of Mozambique’s industrial sector and a reinforcement of the association’s role in advocating for its members’ interests. With a manifesto focused on cohesion, innovation, and industrial sustainability, the new leadership has committed to bringing renewed energy to the sector.
Outgoing president Eng. Rogério Samo Gudo gave a positive assessment of the 2020–2025 mandate, highlighting the challenges faced during the Covid-19 pandemic and the progress made in industrial capacity-building and the transformation of the extractive industry. “We made progress, but there is still much to be done in strengthening AIMO institutionally and consolidating effective public policies,” he concluded.
In his inaugural speech, Paulo Chibanga emphasized that the new term will be led by a young team, supported by experienced figures from the Mozambican industry. “Our main mission will be to promote cohesion among members, foster the emergence of new industries, and strengthen the country’s industrial leadership,” he declared.
Chibanga also stressed that the new leadership intends to intensify institutional advocacy efforts to protect the sector, encourage the export of local content, and reduce dependence on imported products. “We also actively support the pursuit of industrial exemptions that can boost the competitiveness of national companies,” he added.
