The Minister of Finance, Carla Loveira, on Friday (11-04) swore in Osvaldo Augusto Santos Correia as new Director General of Customs and Moisés Patrício Marrime as new Director General of Taxes.
Addressing those present, Loveira said that the event represents a moment of renewal, as these two areas are key in the administration and collection of internal taxes and foreign trade.
According to the Minister of Finance, taxes are the backbone of state financing. It is through them that the government secures resources to invest in health, education, infrastructure and all sectors essential to the country’s development, she said. Furthermore, Customs plays a strategic role in collecting revenue, protecting the national economy, securing our borders and promoting legal and fair trade.
Carla Loveira also challenged the newly appointed directors to be competent and honest in order to ensure fair, efficient and transparent collection of tax revenues.
“Your mission is noble and strategic. It requires seriousness, competence and integrity. We will need a new approach from you to boost tax collection. Today, more than ever, the country demands from all of us an unwavering commitment to legality, efficiency and transparency.”
The Minister of Finance stressed that society needs to once again to trust in Customs and the Tax Authority (AT) to protect public resources, that that the rules will be applied fairly and that everyone, without exception, will comply with their tax and customs obligations
Osvaldo Correia has previously served as Director of Central Services in the Southern Africa Trade and Connectivity Project and the One-Stop Border Posts.
Moisés Marrime has served as Deputy Director General of Taxes and Director of Collection, Registration and Tax Benefits Services.
