Political parties with seats in the provincial assemblies are now part of the political dialogue forum currently underway in the country, enabling them to participate in decision-making for the establishment of reforms and the achievement of stability.
The decision was announced yesterday in Maputo by the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, at the end of another round of dialogue, which was attended by the leaders of PODEMOS, Albino Forquilha; MDM, Lutero Simango; Nova Democracia, Salomão Muchanga; and Ivone Soares, representing the leader of Renamo, Ossufo Momade.
On the occasion, Chapo explained that the inclusion of these political parties is a step towards the inclusion and coverage of the different sections of society in order to achieve the desired consensus on the reforms.
Acting as spokesperson for the meeting, the head of state mentioned as new members of the forum the Partido Revolução Democrática, with six mandates in the Provincial Assembly of Niassa; Pahumo, with eight in Cabo Delgado; Pareso, two in Inhambane; and Parena, with five seats in Gaza. “In the spirit of inclusion, New Democracy, led by Salomão Muchanga, with 16 seats in the Municipal Assembly of Gúruè, is also included,” Chapo explained.
As for the content of the document that will guide the reforms, Chapo said there was already consensus regarding the terms of reference of the agreement, and that the instrument is completely ready.
“We believe that the document cannot move forward without the presence of other political forces, because the objective is to build a future based on consensus to achieve stability,” he said.
He reiterated that the dialogue would cover all sectors, from civil society and the public and private sectors to religious denominations, community leaders and the media.
He said that the ongoing dialogue would enable a review of the electoral package, so that the next elections would be peaceful, improving decentralization and the Constitution of the
Republic.
