Mozambique: Post-election crisis reduced demand in all business sectors - CTA Economic Briefing
The Mozambican Minister of Transport and Communications, Carlos Mesquita, says that the country needs US$11.6 billion for the construction of roads, bridges, railways and airports this year, and is visiting South Africa in search of investors.
Mesquita called on South African entrepreneurs in Johannesburg on Wednesday to invest in the development of transport and communications infrastructure in Mozambique at a seminar organized by the Mozambican embassy in South Africa.
Some participants already know Mozambique well and appreciate that the country faces enormous infrastructure challenges in the transport and communications sectors, but Mesquita says these challenges should be seen as investment opportunities.
According to Mesquita, “the days of the current political tension in the country are numbered”, although he acknowledges that it has had a negative impact.
Carlos Mesquita announced that Mozambique and South Africa would sign a memorandum of understanding on transport and communications shortly.
