The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa-CDC) has announced the provision of US$1.6 million to nine national public health institutes on the African continent, recently designated regional centres of excellence.
The list includes the National Institute of Health of Mozambique, located in Marracuene municipality and selected as a Regional Centre of Excellence for Training in Public Health with a focus on Portuguese-speaking African Countries (PALOP).
Africa-CDC says the amount in question is intended for the acquisition of equipment and implementation of training programmes within the scope of the operationalization of regional centres of excellence.
The same statement also announces experience exchanges will soon take place between the selected centres and public health institutes of European Union member countries.
The nine public health institutes designated as regional centres of excellence, through a very rigorous and competitive process, are from the following countries: Burundi, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Liberia, Mozambique, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Africa and Rwanda.
