Mozambique paid US$40.37 million in interest on 'hidden debt' Eurobonds up to March

With the aim of forming the Advisory Board for the country’s agricultural, fisheries and environmental sectors – now concentrated in a single ministry (MAAP) – and ensuring compliance with the objectives set out in the Government’s Five-Year Programme 2025-2029, the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries, Roberto Mito Albino, on the morning of Monday, May 5, inaugurated the appointed national directors.
The National Directorate of Agriculture will be headed by Jabula Arlindo Zibia, while Daniel Sérgio Massinga will occupy the position of Director of Legal Affairs and Litigation.
Nilza Joubert Paunde was appointed to be responsible for the Planning and Policy Directorate, while Rafael José Airone Escrivão will take over the National Directorate of Livestock. In turn, Licínia Raquel de Castanheira e Cossa will take on the role of National Director of Extension.
Adérito Jorge Benedito M. Wetela was entrusted with the portfolio of the National Directorate of Lands and Territorial Development, while Imede Chafim Falume will head the National Directorate of Forests and Wildlife.
Francisco Fenequisso Sambo will oversee the portfolio of the National Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, and Marcos Romão Saúte will be responsible for the Human Resources Directorate.
Eurico Colarinho Navaia was appointed to the role of Director of Administration and Finance, and Elias José Matsinhe will take on the role of Director of Information and Communication. Furthermore, Lucinda Mangue was appointed to the position of National Director of Fisheries and Aquaculture and, finally, Felismina Armando Covane Antia will head the National Directorate of Maritime Affairs.
In his speech, Minister Roberto Albino stressed the need to increasingly strengthen the sector and the forms of intervention, from the formulation and analysis of policies, design and implementation of strategies, programmes and development projects, communication and mobilisation of human, material and financial resources necessary to achieve the goals of economic and social development, promoting family and commercial farming, forestry and fishing, always in a sustainable environment.
“Stakeholders in the agricultural, environmental and fisheries sectors expect strong institutional coordination and articulation from us, based on robust policies, strategies, programmes and projects that respond to the demands of the private sector and the aspirations of our society in general,” he stressed.
Minister Roberto Albino announced that he will re-establish the Coordination Committee for the Agricultural and Fisheries Sector (CCSA) to better coordinate MAAP actions, and reflect more deeply to seek joint solutions to the challenges facing the sector.
The Coordination Committee will include representatives from government institutions, the private sector, development partners, socio-professional organisations and civil society.
Finally, the Minister highlighted that the Mozambican people expect increasing access to food, which requires the implementation of effective institutional policies that promote rural and urban development, ensuring better living conditions for the population.
“Feeding Mozambique is our main mission,” Minister Albinoconcluded.
