Nampula province is hoping to reduce the number of road accidents with the introduction of ‘travel bulletins’ [boletim de viagem]to be presented at traffic inspection operations at checkpoints, Wamphula Fax reports.
The document must be filled by drivers at checkpoints, and the information may help indicate whether drivers, especially of passenger transport vehicles, have been speeding.
A provincial commission integrating the transport and communications and other sectors is working on the implementation of the Boletim de Viagem initiative.
According to Provincial Director of Infrastructure, Gil Carvalho, the introduction of travel bulletins will help control the speed of drivers using certain routes.
“If a driver leaves Nampula city at 5:00 a.m. and arrives at Namialo town at 5:30 a.m., it will be obvious that he exceeded the speed limit, endangering the life of passengers, in the case of a semi-collective passenger transport vehicle,” Governor of Nampula Manuel Rodrigues explained.
Governor Rodrigues recently visited the provincial directorate of Transport and Communications, and urged the sector to take measures to reduce road accidents, which, in addition costing lives, also provoke extensive material damage.
