The government of Nampula province in northern Mozambique is to distribute land to families displaced by armed violence in Cabo Delgado province, for the construction of houses and the practice of agriculture, regional officials have said.
The Secretary of State for the province of Nampula, Mety Gondola, quoted on Tuesday by state-owned broadcaster Radio Mozambique, said that the area where plots will be delimited for families affected by the conflict in Cabo Delgado is currently being identified.
The Secretary of State did not specify the number of families that would get land.
The province of Cabo Delgado has been the scene of actions by armed groups since October 2017, which, according to the United Nations, have forced 250,000 people to flee and placed 712,000 in need of humanitarian aid.
The conflict has already killed at least 1,000 people, with some of the actions of armed groups claimed by the Islamic State group.
