The circulation of vehicles on the National Road N12 in Nampula between Nacala Port and Monapo is currently interrupted as a result of intense rainfall in the region, the National Roads Administration (ANE) announced on Wednesday.
Images circulating on social networks show a semi-trailer immobilised in a crater opened by rains in the road.
In a communique, the ANE explains that “until conditions are created to restore the damage, all types of vehicles may alternatively circulate via Matibane-Mussoril-Naguema-Monapo and vice versa” – a 120-kilometre detour.
The ANE says it is already on the ground addressing the problem, but without giving any estimate of when repairs will be completed.
Meanwhile, it “regrets any inconvenience caused by this situation” and appeals to road users for their understanding and cooperation.
