Nacala Logistics moved 647 (kt) kilo-tonnes of miscellaneous cargo in 2024, a significant increase of 117 kt on the 2023 figure.
On its Facebook page, the company explains that the milestone is the result of investment, especially in the start of cargo transportation to Zimbabwe and the resumption of traffic in the region of Kanengo, Mchinji, in Malawi and Chipata, in Zambia.
“These are strategic destinations that strengthen regional connections and promote the economic development of the Nacala Corridor,” Nacala Logistics explains.
For the company, this result proves its logistics capacity to do yet more in 2025.
At the end of 2024, Nacala Logistics and Cimentos de Moçambique (CIM) signed a contract for the annual delivery of 150,000 tons of coal from Moatize to Nacala, where the Cimentos de Moçambique factory is located.
Nacala Logistics was created by the merger of each of Nacala Corridor concessionaires Northern Development Corridor-CDN, Nacala Integrated Logistics Corridor-CLN, Central East African Railways-CEAR and Vulcan Logistics Limited-VLL, designed to streamline and enhance the commercial relationship between the companies and service users.
In Mozambique, Nacala Logistics covers 970 km of railway in the regions of Nacala, Moatize, Lichinga and Entre-Lagos, passing through Cuamba. In Malawi, a rail network of 730 km covers the regions of Nayuki, Limbe and Chipata, passing through Liwonde.
The Nacala-à-Velha Port Terminal is a natural port, the deepest on the east coast of Africa, and can receive ships with a capacity of up to 200,000 tons.
