Nacala Logistics is supporting the fishing communities of Massigirine and Nachiropa in Nampula province in the construction of motor boats. In total, 160 fishermen from that coastal region will benefit.
The new vessels will allow fishing in the open sea, making fishing significantly more profitable and increasing the quantity and quality of the catch, thereby creating wealth for the beneficiaries and increasing family income.
The boats will be equipped with conventional fishing and safety materials, including nets, buoys, life jackets and cooler boxes for the conservation of catch.
The vessel construction process involves local carpenters, appointed by the beneficiary fishermen themselves, who have been working on the project since April.
In addition to the boat project, Nacala Logistics will support the fishing sector with a refrigeration and ice production system for better conservation.
These actions are part of the Nacala Logistics Income Generation Programme covering about 15,000 families in the Nacala Corridor, with support in areas including agriculture, fishing, chicken farming, savings and credit, among others.
The programme also provides water boreholes financed by the company.
Despite the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the country’s economy, Nacala Logistics remains committed to supporting communities where it operates and contributing to the development of the region.
