National Highway No. 6 (N6) in Manica province is experiencing heavy freight traffic, stretching for several dozen kilometres.
According to Customs authorities at the Machipanda Administrative Post, this unusual movement is associated with the increased procurement of raw materials by hinterland countries in anticipation of the approaching end of the year, a period during which many international suppliers suspend services.
Sources indicate that remote truck parking areas have been designated with the aim of organizing the movement of vehicles along the N6 and reducing congestion at the Machipanda Border Post, which is unable to meet current demand.
However, the number of trucks heading along the N6 from Porto da Beira to Machipanda is so heavy that it is obstructing traffic and making driving dangerous for non-commercial vehicles.
