The Muslim Community, in partnership with the Islamic Medical Association of Mozambique and the Islamic Women’s Organisation in the city of Maputo, on Friday donated Covid-19 prevention equipment to the Central Hospital of Maputo (HCM), the General Hospital of Mavalane (HGM) and the Polana Caniço General Hospital (HGPL).
The donations consist of gowns, masks, goggles, boots, gloves, shoe covers, caps, detergents and disinfectants, bleach, buckets and spray pumps.
Muslim Community spokesman Yussuf Loonat said the gesture, by the Islamic Medical Association of Mozambique currently being instituted and the Islamic Women’s Organisation, comes within the scope of social responsibility activities, noting that the Muslim religion was generally committed to action in support of humanitarian causes.
He explained that the Muslim Community has started actions in the fight against Covid-19 several days ago, distributing pamphlets about prevention measures in public places and using the loudspeakers of mosques to spread the message.
Vehicles equipped with a sound system were circulating around the city explaining preventive measures, and aid actions would spread to other health units in Maputo province and people in need in the coming days, Loonat added.
On Saturday, the Muslim community would distribute food and hygiene kits to 600 families in Zitundo and Bela Vista, Matutuine district, Maputo province, he also announced.
