Mozambique: Mulémbwe abandons ad hoc commission to review parliamentary regulations

Assembly of the Republic (AR) deputy Eduardo Mulémbwe has resigned from his position as president of the ad-hoc commission reviewing the legislative body’s regulations.
In the letter dated June 5 and submitted to the Speaker of Parliament, Mulémbwe also resigns from the commission itself.
“I communicate, with immediate effect, from this date, my resignation from the role of President of the Ad-hoc Commission for the Review of the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly of the Republic, as well as my resignation/abdication of the status of member of the same,” Mulémbwe wrote in a letter sent to the Commission president, Esperança Bias.
The decision to resign comes just days after the former AR president failed to obtain enough votes to join the list of candidates to become Assembly of the Republic deputy for the constituency of Cabo Delgado, in northern Mozambique.
News outlet Savana has learned that the internal party process for nominating candidates for deputies has been marked country-wide by irregularities and accusations of vote buying, and is being strongly contested within the government party.
